FROM THE INSIDE - South Africa

Many profound insights and salient points of discussions were brought forth during the latest "From the Inside" session, which dealt with the current problems and future prospects of contemporary South Africa.

Students with a direct link to the region, either as nationals, having lived in a neighbouring country, or as participants of a visiting programme in South Africa, contributed significantly to an authentic depiction of the issues at stake. While the upcoming World Cup constituted a major theme, to which also the professors and Krupp College Honorary Members Dr. Bau and Dr. Bogaards had an abundance of speculative as well as background-related comments, the remnants of South Africa's former apartheid system were addressed and analysed in an inspiring way. Movie clips from the film "Jerusalema" visualised quite intensively the depth of corruption, inequality and racial / tribal stigmatisation still plaguing the South African nation.

The organisers of the event were pleased by the participation of both active speakers and listeners, which on the whole created a comfortable atmosphere with a highly informative value. "From the Inside" discussions have proven to be a great way of deepening one's knowledge or voicing one's opinions about a certain issue of concern in a most relaxed and informal manner.

Credits go to B-a-Link and Krupp College for making this event possible. Stay tuned for advertising of the next "From the Inside" event!
