Candied Apples for a Cause

Last Monday, the Krupp team along with several volunteers embarked on the long journey over to College Nordmetall to participate in a brand-new Jacobs tradition, the Nordmetall Christmas Market. But before the market fun could start, Santa COM along with his two helpers Tani and Seb turned the college office kitchen into a proper mess by preparing fresh candied apples.

Equipped with a recipe from an American website, Tani and da COM at first struggled to keep the red sugary mass on the apples, but after Seb added about a kilo of extra sugar, things started working out. After da COM quickly cooked up some amazing christmas punch, they were ready to venture to Nordmetall. Of course Kruppies travel in style, so da COM's parents' old Mercedes was pimped up with some read flags to ensure a loud and proud entry.

At the market, both the punch and the apples proved to be a hit, the former being compared to great candy, the latter to their professionally made counterparts at Freimarkt. Even though it was somewhat hard to peel the wrappers off the apples, the crowd munched away. What made the apples taste even better is that all proceeds went to a charity project initiated by Jacobs students. The students involved went to local kindergartens to collect wishes from disadvantaged kids. Their wish lists were then displayed on christmas trees all over campus and in the local shopping districts for anyone feeling generous to pick up and fulfill. The funds collected at the market will be used to buy presents for any lists that didn't get picked up or got lost.

Krupp is proud to support such a relevant cause which highlights that even in the surroundings of a prestigious private university there are people living in poverty.
