2nd Jacobs Run - An International Race

This last Saturday in Bremen North, an international group of competitors from over 30 countries competed in the 2nd Jacobs Run at Jacobs University. There were four races: a children's 400m and 1km, and a 5km and 10km for all ages. The youngest participant was less than a year old and could barely walk, and the oldest was 77 years young and could still run 5km!

LG Bremen Nord had a strong showing, with Bernhard Friedenberg winning the men's 5km and Rebecka Weise-Jung winning the women's 10km, but two guests kept the locals from winning everything. Anna-Mari Määttänen from Finland won the women's 5km and Marek Jaskolka from Poland won the men's 10km.

In addition to individuals, this year there were several 4-man teams competing from local businesses like Kellogg's and Aramark. There were also Jacobs student teams from such far away places like Ethiopia and even more exotic, a team from the Hamburg School Of Busniess Administraion!

The race was hosted by Krupp College and generously sponsored by Dresdner Bank, Aramark, and Karstadt, providing prize money, a delicious pasta dinner, and sports accessories. And the free massages given by Kirsten Schwater's team from Das Gesundheitshaus were most appreciated by the tired runners.

Proceeds from the run are to be donated to the charity "Proyecto Nueva Esperanza". Several winners also donated their prize money. All in all, it was fun, international contest for a good cause on a beautiful Saturday in Bremen North.
