My message to the Kruppies:
Explore, engage, enrich!
Have a curious and open mind, try out the various offers at Jacobs University and explore its neighbourhood, the city of Bremen and your host country Germany. Engage in activities inside and outside the classroom and enrich your life and the life of others by caring for them, our environment, and the world.
Some personal information:
Born in 1963, I grew up in a small village in Bavaria, in one of the loveliest regions in Germany, at the shores of Lake Ammersee, with a view on the monastery of Andechs, well-known for its very fine beer. I went to high school at the Rhabanus Maurus Gymnasium in the archabbey of St. Ottilien. Well, Benedictine monasteries apparently played an influential part in the early days of my live. Most of my academic training took place in Augsburg - you see, slowly I accustomed to more urban environments - and I spent a very stimulating year in the Washington DC area in 1997. Having made this American Higher Education experience I was very happy to learn to know about the establishment of International University Bremen and joined the initial faculty here in 2001.
I am married since almost 20 years now, and we have a son and a daughter. Our son; Matthias, is this year about to graduate from high- school and is currently looking for universities. Our daughter, Hannah, is 14 and fills the home with teenage life. Due to a variety of reasons the family home is still in Augsburg and hence I am commuting once a week through Germany. That is also the reason why you will have a hard time to attract me to week-end events taking place in Krupp College. I hope you understand, but do not give up in trying doing so.
I love the mountains and the sea (to be honest, I prefer the Mediterranean to the North Sea, well, life is just more enjoyable at 25 degrees Celsius and up), I do quite some hiking, swimming, jogging, reading, dancing and going to the movies.
