My message to Kruppies:

Find your passion and pursue it, be on the cutting edge, behave honorably, live your life with gusto and go out there and make a difference.

Biography:

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1961. Coming from the city of eternal spring, I am a little partial to sunshine and palm trees. However, I have made a comfortable home in Bremen, and found a job that fits me perfectly at Jacobs University.

There are many places I have called home through the years, Caracas, Tallahassee, Washington DC, Quito and now Bremen. The secret is to fully enjoy where you are and to give yourself completely to the experience of being there.

Strangely enough I studied French Literature at Florida State University. Many of the experiences I had there led me to where I am today. I took some German classes so I could hang out and drink beer with the German Department folks at their Friday afternoon Stammtisch. I became a good listener and discovered that I was passionate about helping others find their way.

My next steps took me to a teaching job in the DC area where I met my mentor in college counseling. I learned a lot watching my colleague in action. She is one of the best. From there I took what I had learned and moved back to Caracas and later on to Quito, Ecuador. In both cities I worked in international schools that were very similar to Jacobs University. Smart, articulate, passionate students from all over the world in a crazy bubble of learning and acceptance – this is where I want to be.
